The Incredible Hulk 2, often referred to as Hulk 2 in some contexts (since it is a sequel of sorts to the earlier 2003 film Hulk directed by Ang Lee), is a superhero film directed by Louis Leterrier and is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It stars Edward Norton as Bruce Banner / The Hulk, and is a reboot that seeks to explore a more grounded, action-oriented version of the iconic character, distinct from the 2003 film’s tone. While not a direct continuation of Ang Lee’s Hulk, “The Incredible Hulk” serves as the second installment of the MCU, following the success of Iron Man (2008).
The film opens with Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) in hiding, working as a scientist in Brazil after a failed experiment turned him into the Hulk, a giant, uncontrollable, rage-fueled creature. Banner is attempting to cure himself of the condition, which causes him to transform into the Hulk whenever he experiences extreme anger or stress. In the opening sequence, we see a brief recap of his origin, where Banner was exposed to gamma radiation during a scientific experiment, triggering the transformation.
Banner is living a secluded life, working in a bottling plant while trying to keep his identity a secret. He has not been able to find a cure, but he continues his research, hoping to reverse the transformation. During this time, he is also trying to control his anger and avoid situations that might trigger his transformation.
However, Banner’s past catches up with him when a military organization, led by General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross (William Hurt), learns about Banner’s condition and wants to harness the Hulk’s power for military purposes. Ross is relentlessly pursuing Banner, believing the Hulk can be used as a weapon. The general’s efforts lead to a tragic series of events, including the creation of a new Hulk-like creature, the Abomination (played by Tim Roth), who is much more monstrous and dangerous than the Hulk.
The military, under Ross’ command, experiments with the same gamma radiation
