The Sound of Music (1965) is a beloved musical drama directed by Robert Wise, set in Austria just before World War II. The film stars Julie Andrews as Maria, a young novice who is sent to be the governess for the seven children of a widowed naval captain, Georg von Trapp (played by Christopher Plummer).
Maria, full of energy and joy, is initially at odds with the strict and emotionally distant Captain von Trapp. However, her warmth, kindness, and love for music gradually win over both the children and the captain. Maria introduces the children to the joy of singing and life outside their strict, disciplined world, and they form a deep bond.
