The Hateful Eight (2025) is a Western mystery film directed by Quentin Tarantino. Set in post-Civil War Wyoming, the story follows a group of eight strangers who find themselves trapped inside a remote stagecoach stopover during a snowstorm. As tensions rise, each character’s dark secrets and personal agendas come to light.

The film begins with a bounty hunter, Major Marquis Warren (played by Samuel L. Jackson), and a sheriff, Chris Mannix (played by Walton Goggins), both on their way to the town of Red Rock. They end up seeking shelter at a haberdashery where four other characters are already present: bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his prisoner Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh), along with two locals, Bob (Demian Bichir) and Joe Gage (Michael Madsen). As the storm isolates them, the group grows increasingly suspicious of each other, and it quickly becomes clear that not everyone is who they claim to be.

The plot is full of tension, surprise twists, and violence, with Tarantino’s signature dialogue-driven scenes and dark humor. The characters’ backstories unfold throughout the film, and the movie explores themes of betrayal, revenge, and moral ambiguity.
The film’s style is heavily influenced by classic Westerns, with stunning cinematography by Robert Richardson and a distinctive score by Ennio Morricone. The confined, single-location setting adds to the claustrophobic atmosphere, building suspense as characters confront each other.
Overall, The Hateful Eight is a brutal and intriguing tale of survival, justice, and vengeance, featuring standout performances from the cast and characteristic Tarantino dialogue. The film also won an Academy Award for Best Original Score.
